Now: Locals refer to Clement Street as "the other Chinatown" - certainly there are Chinese markets and shops. But there is more ethnic diversity here than immediately meets the eye. Vietnamese, Korean, and Thai are heavily represented among the restaurants. And the infamous Burma Superstar is a magnet that brings visitor spillover to the rest of the neighborhood.
Then: Sandy dunes, like the rest of the western half of the city, it was far down on the list of possible locations to build a home for early San Franciscans. Most of the influx that made this neighborhood what it is culturally happened after World War II.
How To Get There: The 2-line Muni bus from Sutter Street eventually makes its way out here, but it's a long ride. The 44-line bus travels through 9th Avenue before crossing the park and hitting Clement Street. This can be a convenient way to get here from those areas if you're able to catch it. Parking is notoriously difficult around Clement Street, and all you can do if you're driving is hope to get lucky.
